Addiction question, caffeine and alcohol

dxkj

Lifer
Drink 6 sodas (mountain dew in this case) on average per day, for 1.5 years. Would you be addicted with that amount?

Drink 2-3 alcoholic drinks a day for a few months, can you just stop for a few months without feeling an urge?

It can be hard to wean yourself off anything. Took me 2 or 3 tries to stop drinking coke, but I have finally kicked the habit, after a couple of relapses, and I used to drink less than 6 a day, but it was for a longer period.
I'm not sure how much is addiction, and how much is habit/familiarity, but it can be difficult to cut yourself off from many things.

You can most definitely get addicted to caffeine from that much soda. My buddy who probably doesn?t drink quite that much, but close went one day without any soda a while back. He had headaches, cramps, nausea the whole bit. He was in rough shape.

pop is the easiest thing to wean yourself off of, given the right habit.
hell, actually I just lied. it was normally hard, but i had to get out of the habit of 4+ cans a day because i wasn't getting any water. with PT 3 days a week, I need to have good water intake.
now i consume caffeine through coffee on quite a few days, or caffeine pills. then again, its the necessity for something to keep me awake when i only get 4-5 hours of sleep on average during the week. weekends my body gets out of balance and i tend to get 12 hours. lol

I was just curious... I drink 4-8 cans a day 4-5 days a week (night job and i never get enough sleep 🙁 Ive had this amount for probably 1-1.5 years (diet mountain dew) and whenever I take vacations I dont drink any for a week or two and have no issues.

you can get addicted to anything.

it's no surprise that you can't sleep when you drink that much pop. drink water and lots of it. you'll sleep like a baby.

4-8 cans a day... isn't that a bit excessive?

When working a 12 hour shift from 7pm-7am overnight and having 4-6 hours of sleep a day, except the first and last days where I go 30 hours with no sleep in order to switch schedules.... not really. I need to stay awake, and caffeine helps some, but only in large doses

Are there any negative effects to drinking 5 diet cokes a day? I really love my diet coke and my caffeine.

It's a lot of acid & carbonation. You don't exercise much do you? That is the worse thing about pop for me...the carbonation just makes me feel like crap and really impair aerobic activities.

Plus I'm about as anti-conspiracy as you can get concerning artificial sweeteners, but I think that many a day is pushing the thresholds of moderation.

In all honesty, Coke is the only thing I drink except for water fountains a couple times a day. I'd say 90% of the liquid i drink in a day is caffinated coke, and I don't feal in anyway addicted to it. When I went home this winter break I didn't get any caffine for a month and that didn't casue any adverse reactions. Its just at school there really isn't anything provided to drink except Coke products, so its hard to nto drink them.

I don't exercise. I drink some juice in the morning, a coke at lunch, 3-4 cokes at night, and a few glasses of water before bed.

I used to drink 1-2 cans of coke a day. But I've completely kicked the habit and now I drink 1-2 cups of tea a day. Usually green tea or some type of herbal tea without sugar so I guess it's pretty healthy.

That's a whole lot of sugar and teeth melting phosphoric acid, aside from the caffeine. I hope you have dental insurance :Q

There are better ways to get your caffeine. Of all the sugars you can intake, the fructose in soda is THE worst. Plus all the acid, makes a bad combo. It might take a while, but eventually its going to rot your teeth and who knows what it will do to your esophagus. Why take the risk - get yourself some NoDoz or the equivalent. Ask the pharmacist to recommend the best one for you, and be sure to tell him if you have any other health issues.

I drank one bottle of Starbucks Frappuccinos every day for months and then all of a sudden I stopped. I'm not really having any withdrawal other than just being tired, but eating breakfast curbs that feeling a bit.
