Damn I might have missed lots of things...
How can you use a secondary weapon?!?!? When I have a melee weapon equipped and find a bow/xbow, my melee weapon get replaced by the ranged...
 
Your secondary doesn't need to be a bow. For awhile I ran around with a mace of necrotic damage, and later I picked up some lightning damage staff (spell caster weapon, not a quarterstaff). Even if your attack rating is a bit lower, it's still better than having damage cut in half most of the time.
