Adderal and Methylphenidate

I don't think any chemical repairs the nuerons. they merely serve as replacements to the natural chemicals that attach to receptors in your neurons by saturating them w/ it.

I have never heard that either drug actually repairs pathway damage in the brain. I would be interested in seeing some credible literature on that.

Does pathway damage cause ADD? I'm ADD, though never diagnosed. It's a mixture between ADD and hyperactivity....yet I still make fairly decent grades and get stuff done at work. (when I'm not posting) It makes me wonder if one of these drugs would help me.... I just want to finish school before I ever test them. (4 classes to go)

Self-diagnosed ADD/ADHD...God, that is sad. You, most likely, do not have ADD or ADHD.

Not sure... methylphenidate is Ritalin. And Adderall is a mixture of (IIRC) four different simulant medications.

One of them does

From the article, both do. They are very similar compounds. Although I take that study with a huge grain of salt.

The "disruption" in circuitry could also be a misnomer. Just because ADD kids are wired different than non-ADD kids, doesnt mean that the ADD kids are damaged, so to speak. Just wired differently, either due to genetics or environment.

Perhaps taking the stimulant meds force ADD children to behave more like non-ADD kids. You use your brain in a certain way, and it molds itself to what you use it for. Since theyre medically induced to concentrate and focus, it would reinforce the neuronal connections at the areas that regulate such things.

I highly doubt that the compound itself is "repairing damage."

There are more studies. I have a physician friend who mentioned it once. now, I am currios to read more abou it, so I started here.

Wikipedia:

1/4 Dextro-amphetamine Saccharate
1/4 Dextro-amphetamine Sulfate
1/4 dl-amphetamine Aspartate (racemic ampethamine)
1/4 dl-amphetamine Sulfate (racemic amphetamine)

I take Adderall.

My rx is for 30mg/day...

Honestly? I only take 10, and that's in the morning.

I've been on it for 2 years and find that is does help... a lot. Prior to that, I thought that I might have add adhd.

I never got in fights in school, but it was hard to focus...hell, even playing a video game was tough. I took the "test" for it a couple years ago, against my doctors will (he thouht I had depression), and low and behold, I scored off the charts.

When I take the RX, I actually feel relaxed...sounds weird, but it does help. I try not to take it on the weekends and most always avoid taking it in the afternoon.
