Added to my FireArm collection Today

Well I brought home my latest addition to my firearm collection today after the 10-day waiting period, Desert Eagle .44 Magnum. Should be fun shooting once I get down to the range. I guess this means I will need to get the .50 AE barrel and magazine also.

price? what's the recoil like on this, say, compared to a 9mm? (that's the only pistol i have to compare it to).

I shot a friend's Desert Eagle .44 Magnum once many years ago. It had a nasty tendancy to eject shells straight back at the shooter...ie ME!

I currently own a S&W model 629 .44 Magnum with an 8" barrel so I'd have to pass on the DE.

It was $1600 with tax out the door in the Republic of California.

I haven't had a chance to fire it yet. The gun is around 4lbs and can double as club if I run out of Ammo . The gun uses 44 standard 44 Magnum Ammo but no lead bullets should be fired through this gun. The gun is supposed to be a little temperamental on Ammo being a gas operated semi-auto. Magnum Research has a list of approved ammo from there website.

Being a semi-auto the recoil is supposed to be lighter than a .44 Magnum revolver. That slide absorbs some of the recoil. I have fired a .44 Magnum revolver before and to me the recoil wasn't that bad. Once I get a chance to make a range visit I will find out.

Also since I live in the Republic of California there is only one type of Desert Eagle approved for sale in this state and that is the .44 Magnum in standard black. So sorry to disappoint but no Chrome, Silver or Gold desert eagles and the my favorite model in Tiger Stripes.

I think the Desert Eagle is more of a novelty gun personally. It is way too big to carry concealed and way too heavy to carry in the woods for protection. I guess if you're going into combat it might make a good side arm but then again, a Colt .45 is still a lot lighter.

I have friends in Orange County (Seal Beach and Huntington Beach) and my In-Laws live in Los Angeles (Torrance area). I know the area well...currently living in North County San Diego.

Congrats on the purchase. Do you own any other guns? I suspect that you do, this is not a gun most people buy as their first firearm.

No this is not my first gun.

I have a Sig 226 9mm, Sig 229 .40 S&W and Para Ordnance P-14 .45 ACP. The wife also has a Sig 232 in .380 ACP.

I live within 10-mins of the Irvine Spectrum.
