I've always wondered why people are so into utterly butchering their CSS just to trick MSIE like that. Why not just use MSIE's built in conditional comments (like they show here http://webdesign.about.com/cs/htmltags/a/aacommentsie.htm ) to include a style sheet just for IE 5?

Maybe to keep all of their CSS in the same spot.

Personally I think it's inane to use these ridiculous hacks just so you can say you're "CSS pure." I'd just use a damn table. But web dev zealotry is another issue altogether.. don't get me started :Q
