Add Vista to XP Pro on new system?

Purchasing a new system with XP Pro installed from those who shall not be named. If I purchase Vista Home Premium OEM to install as a dual boot, will vista create the extra partition during the installation, or should I order the system with (2) partions already on the drive? I would take the chance on Vista only, but my slide scanner is not supported and never will be it seems. 🙁
