Add some simple security and file sharing help

now I just setup my wrt54g wireless router, and We have one laptop, but how exactly do I set up some simple security such as WEP? i dont understand the passphrase and "generate" because it brings up all these "keys" and whatnot

and also, how would I add the laptop to my "workgoup computers" list in network connections to share files?
