Add Remove Programs in Control Panel of Xp

I have been working on one of my friend's Dell Laptop for about a day and I encountered a strange problem. The add/remove programs icon on the control panel for XP home disappeared on me. I don't know when or why. Any idea if I can access it via run command in the start menu like I might ipconfig, msconfig etc. Or what do I have to do in order to add it back to the control panel if it is altogether removed from the system. Thanks for your help in advance.

Have you been using any program like TweakUI that allows to you modify what shows up in the Control Panel? You might have disabled the Add/Remove service by accident.

I do and I have already checked there. Everything in the control panel section of tweakui is checked. Funny thing is I cannot even see add remove programs in that list.

You could try going to another win XP computer and copying the Control.exe file that's the control panel file, You can find it at C:/Windows /System32 control.exe then just copy it to this same location on the Dell notebook.

Right idea, wrong file. Check to make sure that Appwiz.cpl didn't get deleted off the system
