Add/Remove Program Access Problem, Please Help

I'm having difficulty getting the add/remove program to come up in the control panel. When I double click to access it, it just stays where it says "please wait while the list is being populated". It always came up pretty quick but no more. I hit the task manager and CPU resources are less than 3% so there appears to be nothing bogging the PC down. Any ideas?

Thanks, my current them is "Windows XP". As far as the uninstaller goes, what are you referencing? When I uninstall a program, I go through the add/remove programs. Is there a better way?
