wanted to add a user on a win xp pro sys, windows wants the account to be admin user, cant select non admin, non admin isnt available to select. apparently doing something wrong!

You can change it this way:

Start, Run, control userpasswords2

That will bring up a dialog where you can
make all types of changes to a user account.

One explaination is that the current user is using the "One True Administrator" account that's normally hidden and normally not used by end users. So the first normal user account you'd create would have to be "your" Admin account, and then you'd create another new account after that. One at a time of those two user-created accounts can be a non-Admin, the other will be the Admin, and the One True Administrator account will become hidden, as is normal.

thinks thats whats happened mechBgon, when i created the other acc with admin status "My Docs" where not avail from my documents, i restored and they came back, is there a way to set myself as the only admin and allow a user with a sign on screen name to protect my account.

One possible solution would be to log onto the old Admin account, run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to save the account's settings and stuff, then make the new Admin account and use the FAST again to import them all.

Created a new user admin account, then i was able to create the limited user account, all is well now.

as mechbgon suspected it was originally setup on the master admin only.
