I think such symbols (and names) are protected per se, with no need for a copyright. So I dont think they can keep it. Have no clue about "The White House" though because it is a quite general name without the "The". But I am pretty sure u couldnt call anything "Bundeskanzleramt" (loosely translated: chancellors office)
