I've got a remote & receiver I'll ship you for $20.

I have the software as well, but I may have to find it.

There are software packages available for free as well.

Check out the handful of Winamp plugins designed to do this (www.winamp.com).
Then find out what devices those plugins utilize.
Then find out how much those devices cost.

i use x10's "mp3 anywhere"

comes with transmitter, receiver, and serial port adapter thingy

it's meant to transmit a/v signals over 2.4 ghz, but comes with a cool remote and "x10 boom 2000" software that can control winamp, windows media player, etc.

www.x10.com

i believe it's now called the "mp3 and dvd anywhere" and runs about 70 bucks.

You can get the X10 MouseRemote VK19A for $50. Combine it with free maX10 software for the best damn PC remote available! If you are interested I can post links, but I'm too tired to look them up right now.

sun318, or whatever his name is sells IR remotes/receivers/software for quite cheap. That's where I got mine, but I've never used it much. X10 would be even better, I suppose, but expensive.
