Or you could hold down the "1" until it calls the first person in the phone book...

1 calls the voicemail unless it is reprogrammed by the user. at least for the phones i've used
For the LG's and Samsungs I have had, #1 was always the first entry in the address book.

same...*86 dials voice mail for me

I'm a dispatcher for a police department, so I get an inside view of what goes on during emergencies. It is my opinion (and that of my department) that while this is not a terrible idea, it's not a breakthrough either. It's not like we have been sitting around scratching our heads wondering "what could we possibly tell people to do that would make it easier to contact their immediate family?" We usually pull up the list of most recent calls placed from the cell phone, and start calling them. Or received calls. Or phone book that usually lists "mom" or "work", etc.

I don't understand why this info has been spreading around the internet like wildfire. But it certainly couldn't hurt.

Repost...and honestly...i dont understand how emergency workers cannot figure out the obvious contacts such as "mom" and "dad".....

I agree.

It's more for if there is someone else you'd like them to contact first. Such as your primary care physician or your spouse versus your mom n dad. Perhaps you do not speak with your mom and dad. Doing this does not harm you in any way so it's not useless.

never said it was useless...but chances are..if you dont speak with your mom/dad...they wouldnt be in your address book...even if they were...they'd have to be pretty b!tchy to just say "I dont care" to the emergency workers if they found out their child was dying

Like a previous poster mentioned, Mom could be in another country. Or too far away to really do anything anyways. You'd be surprised at some parents 🙂

On Nokia phones, #1 calls voicemail.

On my Samsung, #1 goes to vmail (it's a newer one).

Basically this has been making a huge wave across the world, stemming from a emergency response worker helping the London bombing victims. The idea is to add the letters "ICE" in front of the person(s) you want called "In Case of Emergency."

Example:

"Mom" should be edited to be "ICE - Mom".

This is getting a lot of attention and I think this is a great idea. It makes it easier for hospital or emergency personnel to contact family members and friends on your behalf.

I tried to fit the icecube in the back of my phone... it just doesnt fit and my phone stopped working...

I don't use Dad or Mom on my address book. I guess I'm cold hearted..I just use their name.
