ADD- Do you notice yourself acting different if you're off your meds?

How you know that ritalin is actually working, or just a psychological effect?

edit:
How you know that ritalin is actually HELPING you, or just a psychological effect?

I've never taken Ritalin, but I assure you if you're on Concerta, you know it. It tends to make me very sleepy when it lets go, but other than that when I'm off it I'm exactly the same as I was before.

I also find that if I take it more than five days straight it starts to lose its effect, and I have to take a few days off.

Yes, I'm quite the asshole when I don't take my meds, mainly because I say whatever I think in my head and dont have time to think about the fact that I shouldn't say that.

My daughter takes Concerta, when she is not on her meds her grades drop significantly and she becomes very easily distracted. Example: You ask her to do the dishes... she starts to do them, and then she sees her cat jump up on the counter, she goes to take the cat off the counter and remembers that she needs to clean the cat pan, she goes to the utility room to change the cat pan, and on her way sees her shorts on the floor of her room and walks in the room to pick them up, and then sees her computer on and a yahoo chat message popped up on the screen, she promptly sits down to see who it is... then she begins to type a response.. before you know it, she is engaged in chat on yahoo and has completely forgotten about the requested chore of doing the dishes. When she is on her meds, she would have put the cat down and thought I will deal with the cat pan later, and finished doing the dishes.

I was "diagnosed" with ADD, and I tried Concerta. For a while, I thought it was really making a difference, but then I stopped taking it and I was still able to achieve the same level of concentration. I think Concerta is basically just an upper, it makes you feel wired. I didn't like that or the side effects of appetite loss. Now I do what everyone should do when they need to do some intense studying - get their ass over to the library.

i heard that the ADD tests are soooo boring that just about anyone will fail, i've never taken it though so i don't know from experience

the effect most of those drugs is to keep certain neurotransmitters in the synapses between nerves longer. This causes your body to compensate by producing less...but it's ok because it's in the synapse longer. Go off the meds, and your body is still producing less, but it's not staying in the synapse longer

That's exactly what I'm like when I don't take meds.

Also, your username is extremely cool. If it isn't from a song, it should be.

Ive taken riddlin, and the stuff made me "drone" like (not doing anything special, crawling into bed at 6 PM, acting way more, whats the word, maybe boring?). I stopped taking it because I felt like I was missing something, and I have learned to control it. I really have gotten better and now I just need to master OCD 🙁 thats the kicker lol.

I was diagnosed with ADD as a child. I could not take Ritalin. It had the opposite effect on me.

I took Cylert, which has since been pulled from the market due to the liver damage it caused.

I decided one day to stop taking my medication and no one noticed. I do have problems concentrating, however I just do my best.

Reminds me of that Bob Rivers song...

I do have problems concentrating.......

Exactly the same. Except Concerta or w/e had the opposite effect on me. Rirtalin toned me down way too much at any mg, and now after handling the ADHD i now only have problems concentrating
