Add another 8800 GTX or upgrade my CPU?

What do you guys think I should do? I need more horsepower for Crysis.

So I was thinking I could buy a new power supply and another 8800 GTX or upgrage my mobo, memory, and CPU to Intel.

Also, does NIVIDIA ever plan on releasing a new next gen top of the line GPU?

CPU definitely. 1 8800GTX is already maxing out the athlon 4400. If you add another, I doubt you'll see more than a 2FPS gain.. You definitely need a faster processor.

Oddly enough, informal benches i'm seeing thus far indicate CPU is very important for Crysis.

So while usually GPU is the main factor, it seems both are very vital for Crysis (not really a surprise).

I suspect nothing short of a 5 GHz quad core will satisify Crysis :Q:p;)
Oh, & SLI 10800 Ultras, too.

They'll have to speed it up on their own - if a 8800GTX can't play it at LOW resolutions, then what are GTS and below will do? I'd wait it out. But a quad would bright the day to hope that they take the multi-core potential and apply it to dividing the stages of CPU bound code that prep the rendering stages.

Well the beta is pretty unoptimized. So wait and see if before you buy a CPU based on a beta alone. But I would get a new CPU over another GTX. Get a quad. Crysis will be optimized for quads.

Get a Q6600 G0 and overclock it. I'm sure that would almost double your performance compared to X2 4400.

Yeah, i would look at how getting a new cpu mobo and ram would benefit. getting those new things will benefit your whole system usual whereas adding anotehr vcard will just help you in gaming, besides 1 8800 gtx is alot of horsepower already.

I can play the beta with everything high with my 8800GTS, so I'm going to bet that it's because of the CPU. Get a new CPU :)

Turn off AA, it is disabled in the beta and reduces performance. Also it runs a lot better on xp than vista, that may be your performance problem also.

Plus, this is a beta. Wait for the full game or atleast the demo before making your upgrade.

OK, I've decidded to go with the Q6600. How do I make sure I get a G0 stepping?

Also, do you guys have any mobo and memory recommendations? I'm leaning towards an IP35 board because I don't think I'll ever go SLI as long as NVIDIA keeps pumping out better cards ever year or so.

gigabyte ds3r or asus p5k for 130$ or a better one with wifi/firewire, whatever you need. I read Abit's have high vdroop, bad for overclocking q6600's.

And yeah, sli is nice if you got a 30" screen and play at resolutions past 1920*1280, otherwise I doubt it's really worth it. One gtx is allready a very fast card.
