Hi guys ; since the local store has the deals ; I decided to buy some sticks to upgrade the laptop (Gateway NV59c20v : i3-370M ; 1x2gb DDR3 1333 Samsung)

My RAM is a dual ranks one ; (2 ranks 8 banks) ; in the Samsung site ; they say the configuration is 16 chips

The store has Patriot Signature XXXS1 (sorry can't remember the part number) ; S1 mean it's a single rank ;

My question is : Will my laptop accept new Ram ; and better ; run in dual channel ? I saw lots of folks had to RMA due to the "rank" problem ?

Thanks in advance

You might be overthinking things. AFAIK, you just add more/replace ram and it should just work. Single/dual rank shouldn't matter.

You will have to check and see if your laptop runs in dual channel, it probably does if it's a recent one.

Just get a comparable speed DDR3 (for a laptop... ), plug it in, and you should be good to go!

Not to toot my own horn, but I just got done upgrading my old 2005 Dell laptop with some new Crucial RAM (DDR2... but, hey, at least it's dual channel) and I can't believe the difference! I went from a single stick of 512mb to 2x 1GB... WHOOOO!!!

Thanks for all of your ideas ; men :D

I bought a kit to ensure it works . And a cheap stick to test as well . And you know what ? It works flawlessly in dual channel :D

Like fffblackmage said ; the ranks things don't matter . Maybe the articles I read was outdated .

Charlie98 : Yes ; I feel it's really snappier :D

take the amount of time you put into thinking about it.

divide it by 2

take that amount of time, driving around the countryside, picking up pop cans in the ditch.

take the money you gained from cashing in the deposit on the cans you picked up, and buy some more ram.

/it's that cheap

^ Man ; what do you mean ?

The problem isn't serious ; is that bad to have a question ? Why people spend their time to overclock their CPU ; not just buy a 3960X and leave it on default ?

I really don't like your expression !

He's just having fun...

I think a lot of folks overthink some things... I know I do, depending on what it is. I don't like wasting money or time, either. But what may be a question to ponder for one person, is common knowledge for others. Don't take offense.
