Add 2nd HD, but win2k doesnt recognize!??

I'm trying to add a 2nd HD to my system. Currently I have an ABIT be6-II with a maxtor dmp 40giger. I'm trying to add a seagate 20giger (5400). However, win2k doesnt seem to recognize this 2nd HD. I have put the seagate on its on IDE line and set it as a master. Anyone have any ideas why win2k isnt recognizing my drive??

Win2k won't recognize unpartitioned drives. That might be the case if it's new.

Make sure that you have partitioned the drive that you have added.

Partition the drive first. I found I could only format a second drive I added in Win2K safe mode.

You guys are probably right, Ill fdisk and format the drive first, then try. Thanks again
