Add 2nd GTX 580 or go 770?

Having a hard time debating just adding a 2nd gtx 580 or selling my current card and get a new 770. I will end up roughly spending the same out of pocket either way. I understand the 770 is cooler and uses less power, but I'm more concerned with gaming performance.

I game on a 1080p 120hz monitor. The 580 1.5gb alone isn't cutting it. What do you guys think?

let me suggest something which is worth thinking about. sell the GTX 580 for USD 150 - 170. spend another USD 330 - 350 bucks and go for GTX 760 SLI. for 120 hz monitor you will need GTX 760 SLI to push 100+ fps in the latest games at 1080p.

A 770 may get you 120fps for some games, but certainly not AAA games at high settings.

An SLI 760 would get you more speed for not much of a difference in cost. Assuming you have a Mobo and PSU that will handle it.

Isn't a 760 just slightly faster than a 580? Maybe within 10%. Need to find the chart I saw.

580 sli = 180 out of pocket
Roughly close to the same performance no?

The 760 is 15% faster on average. More so in some games. The larger frame buffer will be more future proof (Unless you have 3GB 580's)

The 770 is the better option if going single card. And if you ever plan on getting a second one, it will be the better long term option.

Big advantage of dual 760 over dual 580 is there is a HUGE difference in power consumption. And the 760 should clock better if you plan to OC at all. But it is cheaper to go with one more 580.

And the 700 series is supposed to me much smoother with added frame pacing hardware. The scaling should be improved as well as the experience.

I am not a fan of a 580 fermi SLI rig at this point in the game. My opinion is anything but this. While the 760sli is a good bit faster than titan, i would imagine 580SLI to be slightly slower. Anyone have links?

760 SLI is a great choice. If your upgrade cycle is rather infrequent, then maybe the 4GB models may help.
Looking at the Red team, 7950 crossfire would be a similar in value.

i wouldnt recommend the 7950 crossfire over a 760 SLI. But i wouldnt have an issue at all with a single 7950 over the 760. If they you can get them both for the same price, i would lean to the 7950. But if multiGPU is in mind, the 760

I agree. Grab 2 GTX 760 4GB SLI and you'll be happily gaming for years to come. I currently have 2 eVGA GTX 760 4GB on layaway. Grab the 4GB model. It's worth the extra $30.

Dual cards are the best budget setup for your res./refresh rate. Safest bet today is the 760. I'm not sure how W1zzard is comparing performance on these graphs, but 760 in SLI should be a fairly significant upgrade over 580SLI. Plus, as others have said, the 580's will use considerably more power and produce a lot more heat. Add to that the smaller frame buffer, and I don't think the 580 is a particularly good investment today.

It could all change in a couple of weeks though when AMD gets their new driver out.
