HI
I have a Dell Studio XPS 16 that is a little over 4 years old.
It uses a Dell 90 watt ac power supply.
There are times when I would like to take the laptop with me as I travel and use it to store maps, directions and many other things.
I'd like to buy 12 volt power adaptor rated at 4.6 amps, 90 watts, etc to power the laptop in the car.
Dell power unit is rated at 110 v input at 1.5 amps
Output is 19 volts at 4.6 amps
First place I looked was in the Targus site.
Um,,, prices seemed to be kinda high. LOL
Any suggestions for other brands, etc???
Thanks

Why not consider using a power inverter? That would allow you to plug your Dell power brick into the inverter's AC plug and run the laptop that way. Some cars have them built in - I had a Buick SUV that had just such an A/C plug in back. Here's a bunch: http://car-inverter-review.toptenreviews.com/

I use a $30 inverter I bought at walmart for my kids using their laptop in the car. that way instead of buying a car adapter for each type of laptop I just use the inverter with their ac adapters

An inverter would work best -- it's more flexible.

Also, not to be tooooo pedantic: adapter, not adaptor. The latter sounds like a comic book hero. "I am ADAPTOR, master of converting plug formats!"

Thanks for the info! After I posted last night I went to the Tripp-Lite web site and found the inverters there. There are two that put out about 325 watts which is kinda overkill but I like to run power supplies, etc at no more then 50 to 70 percent of the rated output.
