Hello, I have an Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI controller and was wondering if they make an adapter to run my scanner from the external 68pin connector to a 25 Pin scanner cable, or would I be just better off installing the scanners own scsi card and forgetting it altogether. I run 50 Pin devices and LVD device off the controller now and am not sure if I can use all three ports or not anyway...any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I bought a DB-50 to DB-25 cable to run from my Ultra-SCSI contoller's external connector to my scanner so I'm sure you can get a 68 pin adapter to at least go from your SCSI card's 68 pin to a cable like I got. Try this site: http://www.valuecomputer.com

The external 68pin connector on the Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI controller is part of the Ultra2 channel. If you put a non-ultra2 device on that channel, it will slow down the whole channel. "Mixing fast/ultra peripherals with Ultra2 periferals causes the entire SCSI bus to default to Ultra SCSI speeds." (p.27 of the Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI controller manual) If you want to run the scanner off the 2940U2W, you should put it on the standard 50 pin Ultra SCSI channel. You could get a 50 pin to 25 pin centronics pass-through converter (costs about $6 at my local Micro Center) that would let you do this. But I wouldn't put the scanner on the Ultra2 channel, unless you don't have any Ultra2 devices on it (but then why have a 2940U2W SCSI controller?)

Use the internal 50pin to external 50pin cable then use a 50pin to
25 pin adapter. Otherwise you'll slow down your u2w channell.

they will have what you need.
