Damn, I thought of that idea years ago. I should have patented it.

Seriously. It occurred to me long ago that cameras taking images from one side and displaying them on flat panels on the other side of an object would make excellent camouflage.

cool!! I wonder how it might be abused, though... does anyone remember that video camera a few years ago that could "see through" clothing?

That was the Sony Handycam in Nightshot mode. I have one, but it was after they fixed the problem. :(

Obviously, the angle of viewing is a problem, but it's better to have an approxamation of what's behind the object rather than the current form of camouflage. A tank sitting in front of a building with splotchy green and brown paint isn't very well hidden.

That picture on that page of seeing the fence is a pretty bad example. I figure it would be more effective in areas where there isn't a specific object it's trying to blend in with. It would work very well if it was just imaging plants behind the object. For example, if the vegetation changed shades of green as the vehicle moved, it would be hidden better if the color of the vehicle changed to match it's surroundings.

I honestly have thought of this before I ever read anything about it. My idea was to have a suit covered with thousands of tiny screens and cameras and always display on a screen what the camera on the other side saw. You'd probably look like the predator.

bobberfett Ah I see you did too! I was thinking of predator a long time ago when I came upon the idea :)
