I have a dvdrom and an 8x burner

i installed xp, and everything worked great for a month

catch 1) i installed adaptec ezcd creator 4, which doesn't work w/ xp, xp complained, and i removed it and installed nero

this is when everything worked fine

all of a sudden both of the drives get a yellow exclamation mark and dont show up in my computer

i "repaired" the windows installation, and same problem

does anyone have any ideas?

i read some stuff that said that it makes it stop installing imapi.sys

how to i get it to do that again?

i've already tried removing both and letting it find them again

too wierd

lmk asap

thanks
david

thats what i would have thought too, thing is, i just "repaired" the windows installation, so obviously the drive works and the controller also works

it has to be some software thing

anyone know it?

I think you corrupted the registry. I believe you will have to edit out the references to EasyCD 4. I beleive there is information pertaining to this at the MS knowledgebase.

I found this at Roxio...pertains to Win2K but should also apply for the most part too WinXP

Clean Easy CD Creator completely from your system:

1. Go to "Start" then "Search", look in C:\ (or the drive where your operating system is located) and search for:
Cdr4vsd.sys
Cdr4dll.dll
Cdral.dll
Cdrtc.dll
2. Rename all files changing their extensions to .ROX
(Right click on the file name and choose "rename")
3. Go to "Start" and then to "My Computer" and select it.
4. Go into your C:\ drive (C:\ is default install drive, compensate accordingly if you installed in another location)
5. Go into the "Program Files" Folder
6. Look for a "Adaptec" folder and if found delete it
7. Look for a "Direct CD" folder and if found delete it
8. Go into the "Common Files" Folder
9. Look for an "Adaptec" and/or "Adaptec Shared" folder and if found delete them.
10. Go into the "InstallShield" Folder (C:\Program Files\Common File\InstallShield and rename the "Engine" and "IScript" folders to "Engine.ROX" and "Iscript.ROX"
