Adaptec SCSI 29160 64bit speed problem

I just bought a new Adaptec SCSI 29160 64bit controller in order to use a PLEXTOR 40x reader and a PLEXTOR 40x recorder.
the problem is that the reader and the recorder reads only at maximum 10x speed.Not only when i try to burn a disk on the fly
but also when i try to make an image on my hd. I use another controler Adaptec 2904 and all works fine.
I used all available drivers and all have the same problem. Also i installed the controller to another system and the problem is still here.
Anyone can help????

MB: Gigabyte 8INX
CPU: P4 2.53
RAM: 1GB DDR
ADAPTEC 29160 64bit
SATA Seagate 120gb hd
Geforce 4 Ti4400
 
Check whether you limited the device position where you have the Plextor to a way too slow SCSI transfer speed (see Adaptec's BIOS).
