Adaptec ARO-1130xA-2 RAIDport controller question....

I have a super micro P6DBS, and in the manual it says to ONLY use that SCSI RAID controller... can i go with someone else? Whats the benefit of having the extra long PCI slot in the mobo for hte RAID controller? Is there another SCSI raid card that i should get instead, that is somewhat cheap and would perform better than the above mentioned controller card?

Also, how much ram would be best for two 9 GB 10,000 rpm hard drives? And these controller boards use SIMMS correct and not Dimms?

Thanks for any help 🙂

Those are the 64bit, if your raid system memory is slower you might as well not have it since it'll be the bottle neck of your disk subsystem. I thought the adaptec ones uses DIMMS..

I poked around on intels website and basically it just said 16 or 64 megs of ram max for that particular one, didnt say if it was SIMMs or DIMMS and they dindt have a pic big enough for me to look and see
🙁

I sure hope its dimms :Q
