Heya... My question is hopefully simple. I have heard all these bad things about the
slots on the asus board but I can't find a single thread talking about whether or not
a 64/33 SCSI card will work in the 64bit slot?

I have found someone that "says" they had a 39160 (64/33) working. But I want a second opinion
before I plop down a junkload of cash on a SCSI card.

Thanks in advance.

O and btw, if the card does work. Is there a good place to get CHEAP ram for it?

Ok, let me say I have the A7M266-D with a Adaptec29160N card and it does work,
however I am encountering problems with the install of XP which may or may not be
due to the card, I will try my old 2940UW tonight to see if that fixes the problem.
Otherwise it is a nice board, runs Linux like a champ and it does support dual XP chips
in SMP mode, oddly an XP chip is always listed as MP and APCI errors occur if I use a single
chip and an SMP kernel, making installing LINUX very difficult. I'm hoping that the SMP difficultly
was the reason why XP would not install, but I shall see. I do see much benift from the 64bit PCI
slot in my case as I need all the PCI slots given that the USB is external (my biggest complaint so far)
and the other card I'm using in a 64bit slot is a 32bit PCI audio card.

egandt: The problems you are experiencing when attempting to install Windows XP may be because you are pressing F6 and are trying to install the drivers for your SCSI adapter off a floppy. I tried installing XP several times this way and finally tried it once without pressing F6. Apparently, WinXP has built in drivers for many SCSI controllers. Give it a try.

I noticed in a review (at Tom's hardware I think) that the USB 2.0 card that comes with the ASUS MPX board can be used in a 64/66 slot even though I doubt that the card itself is 64/66.
I have an LSI Logic 21040 (64/33) SCSI card that I'd like to use in a 64 bit slot in an MPX board.
Does the board compensate by cutting the bus speed in half? Does this run the board out of spec? This is my main reservation in deciding between a Tyan Tiger MP and an MPX...

the 3210s is designed for 64bit/66mhz pci slot (which the a7m266-d has) so it would work great

as for the 3200s it is designed for 64bit/33mhz (which the a7v266-d doesn't have) so i couldn't tell you if it would work or not
