I've got a chance to get one from a group buy from a friend and was wondering if it is a good card? I know its a peripheral card mainly, so I'm guessing a 16x/10/40 cdrw drive would work ok?

Any known problems with em?

Thanks

H3ll yes! Adaptec's SCSI 160 cards are top of the heap. You may find Tekram cards that can compete with it in speed, but Adaptec's reliability and support are top of the heap. I've had a 39160 running for about 9 months in win2k, and everything from the SCSI bio settings to the included SCSI Manager software to the rock solid performance in windows is terrific. Go git it if the deal is discounted, and buy one of the supra-fast Atlas II hds that storagereviews raves about to go with it.

tristramshandy: the 2920 is not a U160 card, or even a U2W card, so it's not intended for hard drives. Is it even bootable?

The 2920 came in several types. The 2920C has a BIOS and came be used with a boot drive. It will work fine with CDRs, etc. R.

Yes, if you are planning on using it with a CD-R or any removeable media drive it should be sufficient. I'm not sure if that model has a bootable bios, but if you already have a dvd or another cd-rom you probably can boot of that anyways/instead.

This is a model without the bios onboard, so no booting allowed. I figured for $15 for one or $25 for two, Its a pretty good deal anyway.

I'll prolly just buy one so i can have something for a scanner or something in the future.

Thanks guys!
