Adaptec 19160 gives BSOD at boot. All fixed, Thanks forcesho!

I just picked up an Adaptec 19160 to replace my 2940U2W and utilize my hdds to their fullest. Upon installing it, the card recognizes my hdds just fine. (They are listed below)

But as soon as the pc gets to the W2K boot screen it freezes for a few seconds and then gives me a BSOD that states that their is no recognizeable boot device. I went into the utilities and made sure everything was set correctly (It was all at default) and tried to re-boot several times all with the exact same result.

I also tried it in a couple different configurations, taking out the 2nd drive made no difference.

Tried setting the U160 card to run at 80 and that made no difference either.

As soon as I dropped my 2940U2W back in everything was fine. :Q

Anyone have any suggestions?

Drives are as follows:

Quantum Atlas 10k 36g U160 as boot. Set as device 0 Lun 0 Harddrive 1
IBM 36LZx 10k 9.1g U160 (80pin with LVD adapter.) Set as device 1 Lun 0 Harddrive 2
Cables are (I tried 2 of them) both Adaptec LVD/U160 with active termination.

Both drives are recognized as U160 and are also spec'd that way.

Any ideas?? Is the card a dud? Am I missing something?? 🙁

Thanks for any info...

Rob

I had that problem with 2930 u2 in w2k..

boot w2k in safe mode, remove driver, take old out

put new in and see if it boots in, if it does, add driver..

some reason w2k and certain adaptec card doesnt work well..

That WAS the ticket forcesho.

Well in a way... :Q I ended up leaving the U2W card in place and then installing the drivers for the U160 once I was in W2K. I then re-booted a couple of times to stablize things and moved the cable over to the U160 and things are just fine now.

Thanks for the help!!!

I got to thinking about it (After I had calmed down) and remembered having to install my U2W card the exact same way. You'd think since it was only about 6 weeks ago that I'd remember... Duh....

Anyway, thanks again!

no problem... i dunno w9x is more forgiving on swapping cards... i guess the kernel of w2k isn't co-operating with swapping.. dunno..
