Adaptec 1542CF and Win2k configuration problems.

I just got an Adaptec 1542CF ISA SCSI card, and the card has worked in other computers. But now when I configure it for mine Windows 2000 will not detect the card when I have it scan for it. So I try to manually install it, then when I reboot the system Win2k locks when loading. The card is configured properly I think, nothing is conflicting, I checked it all before trying anything. And I have tried changing some settings, but it still doesn't want to work. Anybody have any suggestions?
 
In your bios, you need to reserve the IRQ and DMA channel that your SCSI card is using so that W2K doesn't attempt to also use that IRQ and DMA. For that IRQ and DMA, set the bios to read "Legacy ISA".

The <Ctrl-A> screen of the SCSI card will tell you what IRQ and DMA it is trying to use.

You might consider going to Tekram, and ordering a modern PCI SCSI card from their store (for about $30 shipped). That will get you much better performance, and no installation headaches.
 
ya, I realized that after I posted the thread. I tried to reserver 10, then boot, but Win2k locks because the NIC is on 10, so I tried 11 and that locks also because the video is on 11. So, now I think I will just say to hell with the card and put it in a different system, or else get a different SCSI card from another system I have that doesn't really need one... A card that is actually PNP and uses the PCI interface would be nice...
