Redlettermedia theorized that Adam Sandler's makes films as sort of Ponzi scheme. He uses his box office and financial pull to produce cheaply made films, which he loads with advertising, so he and his former SNL friends can cash in. The films themselves have zero artistic merit and were never intended to have any. Audiences are drawn to these films because Sandler is a known figure.
Sandler can act, as he showed in Punch Drunk Love. But he's a terrible director and writer who betrays his own craft for the sake of money. It's a shame he chose to follow the easy way out rather than building on his talents.
