I saw on TLC one time that the entire book of Genisis is actually a collection of stories that most likely came from the legends of Gilgimesh. Nearly every culture has a variation of the same stories that are passed down from generation to generation. They don't think the bible actually becomes a source of history until the time of Abraham...everything before that was pretty much a campfire story for early nomadic tribes that spread their stories where ever they went. Pretty interesting show.

CE stands for common erra and it's equivilent to AD. It is more PC because it doesn't deal with religion

"Groups in favor of CE/BCE:
The Ethic of Reciprocity (the Golden Rule) suggests that one should not intentionally cause pain to other humans. We should treat people as we would wish to be treated. Since only one out of every three humans on earth is a Christian, some theologians felt that non-religious, neutral terms like CE and BCE would be less offensive to the non-Christian majority. Forcing a Hindu, for example, to use AD and BC might be seen by some as coercing them to acknowledge the supremacy of the Christian God and of Jesus Christ. Although CE and BCE were originally used mainly within theological writings, the terms are gradually receiving greater usage in secular works, and in the culture generally. We use them throughout this web site as terms that are less hurtful to religious minorities.

The purpose of this web site is to promote religious tolerance. That is to reduce discrimination, oppression and pain caused to people on the basis of their religion. It is our feeling that the use of religiously neutral terms, like CE and BCE would cause less pain to non-Christians than would AD and BC.

However, there is nothing to prevent a person from defining CE and BCE as "Christian Era" and "Before the Christian Era" if they wish. The Abbreviations Dictionary does exactly this."
