Czar, that crap still going on? Yeah religious groups were scared silly of D&D back when I played the board game. Nobody I ever gamed with was evil or even likely to commit evil. That web page is simply christian propaganda designed to make headlines, scare their flock so as to keep them under control and attack what they don't understand. In the history of mankind religion has done far, far more damage to people than D&D will ever do.

For me D&D was an intellectual social experience. I loved designing campaigns and dungeons and we all had a blast playing that game!

I've heard this crap before. I used to play D&D and have yet to successfully murder anybody or sacrifice any babies to Satan. I'm sure less people have played D&D and ended up killing somebody than those who have watched, say, Terminator 2 and ended up killing somebody. Correlational drivel statistics. Statistics aren't useless, but without an educated mind correlational ones certainly are and thats all these are.

Its like saying that since I know somebody who drank some beer, got drunk and killed somebody, my drinking is fasioning me into a murderer.

BTW czar I'm not talking about you - I think you merely provided the link for educational/entertainment value to us :)

I was reading through, apparently the D&D rituals are "authentic". Is this bad because players can unknowingly invoke satan, is that the thing? LOL, frigging nut-jobs.

The only rituals we had were to eat pizza and drink Mountain Dew for 12 hours straight.

That and roll dice once in a while. :)

Uh, yes, I'd like to seduce the barmaid . . .

Roll a charisma check . . . rattle rattle. Oh, you failed miserably. She stabs you with a kitchen knife.

Hey! I used to be both a player and a dungeon master in AD&D between 1980 and 1984. Played allnighters with a few brewskies and good grass, sharing the fun with fellow graduate students. I had the books and about 400 pewter figurines, half of which I had painted myself (you should have seen my frost giant and my gold dragon). Unfortunately, someone broke into my storage cubicle in the basement of the building about 7 years ago and stole all my stuff (along with ~$10,000 worth of collector comix, including Fantastic Four #1 in mint condition :|). I thoroughly enjoyed this socialising and would do it again in a heartbeat.

BTW, I still turned ok: AD&Dennil

I think that he certainly has some ground to stand on with what he is saying. I would say that you wont notice the effects of the game on your life immediatly. This would be because it is a slow process. Anyway I would say that all of yall were a little too quick to stand up for D&D and failed to take in anything from the article. I would be careful if yall are delving into something you think is fun but really is very dangerous.

<< I had the books and about 400 pewter figurines >>

dennilfloss, too rich for us. We used plastic figures. :)

DonaldDuck82, are you crazed? It's a game. It has no bearing on christianity or satan worship other than perhaps to take a few ideas from each for background material. It's entertainment and downright fun. It brings people together and I'm all for it. Have you ever played a role playing game? I would be careful passing judgement on such products until you prove to yourself they are harmless.

What's strange is that I do not recall ever uttering any demon-summoning incantation in D & D. In fact, my party slayed Demogorgon once at the bottom of a very tough subterranean dungeon. His damn tail (or was it his whip?) cost my character a few levels but it was worth it. Fighter-clerics rule! Asmodeus was also tough. Eradicated two of our party before he croaked.

AD&D is cool. I've played it a few times, and would be interested in getting deeper into it. Like developing some characters...

I'm beginning to dislike Sr. Duck82.

yall think what you want but if you are going to bash the one who attempts to bring in a difference in opinion, why dislike me for my opinions? i dont dislike you because you play d&d. please understand this

You should understand that I don't dislike you because of your views, and is entirely unrelated to the topic at hand.

As for the article... It's an fing GAME! "might makes right" monopoly, risk... these say the same things. As for world views... we have to hope the dungeon master doesn't take a disliking to us.

Perhaps we should note that this is D&D not AD&D that they are talking about? What's the difference?

Did I bash you, compare you to Cybersux or insult you in any way? No. I just want to point out that I played a lot of role games and I still do on my PC (Might & Magic rules all) and I am a very religious man who does not feel drawn towards the dark side one bit.

GreenBeret,

It's a lot of fun but be prepared to meet your shrink the day that the character you have nurtured for a few years croaks and cannot be resurrected. Happened to me and I was devastated, in part because I had to abandon the party that my friends were in. That's why I recommend that people start with 2 characters. At least you have one left and can keep playing with your friends instead of having to go fight goblins and bugbears again with a new party.

D & D was replaced by Advanced D & D in 1979. More complex rules, more monsters, etc. That was 21 years ago. This article refers to the old game version that people haven't played in a long, long time. As usual, the religious freaks are way behind the times. It's like talking about Space Invaders promoting violence in children today. :D

Nobody's dissing you, DonaldDuck82, just privately laughing at your ignorance (at least I am). You're entitled to your opinion, even if it's so obviously wrong. The author of that online drivel is also entitled to an opinion. When we lose sight of common sense and begin to believe any arguments simply because they could remotely plausible, we give in to fear and live in ignorance. Religion promotes rigid, inflexible thinking. An irresponsible article like this will be taken as gospel by some people. I find this disgusting and will certainly voice my thoughts on the matter. But in no way do I mean to attack you personally. Sometimes, things like this just cause my blood to boil. :|

D&D is nothing more than role-playing. Role-playing can help people to related to a charactor, it's like being an actor or detective. I don't see where this hurts anyone....no one is really being hurt, nor does it invovle money. It just doesn't seem wrong to me.

yall are sure content to blow off any warning or sugestions, for a group of people who would probably claim to be open minded i have found yall to be the most narrow minded people, if you would like to look at me as a fundamentalist then so be it but dont waste your time saying that religion is getting a bad name off of this because it would seem to me that we are the ones holding to what we believe while yall are the ones being hypocritical
