So I've been using salami's movie organizer to get data for all of my DVD rips and this software uses a windowed version of IE to pull data from IMDB. Turns out I think I got a few bugs from this. Is there any software I could use to try and disable to ads so I don't continue to pick up malware when using this app?

If you need to, in effect, visit potentially-malicious websites, then here's my suggested security strategy: http://www.mechbgon.com/security If you can't graduate to a full non-Admin user account, at least run that app sandboxed or at reduced privilege level. And definitely run the Secunia checkup to get your vulnerable Flash, Adobe Reader, QuickTime Player, and other commonly-exploited add-ons fixed.

Not sure where else it came from, I wouldn't say I always use the best judgment in my habits but I can't think of anywhere else it would have come from within the last few days. The only other thing I can think of is that I had family in town last weekend any maybe one of them did something?

Maybe they plugged an infected USB or Firewire device into your system (flash drive, camera, MP3 player, memory card, external HDD, etc). The security precautions I linked above will take care of that method of attack, too.
