Ad block and Ad block plus Chrome Issues

I have tried both of these ad blockers on the latest version of chrome but they don't seem to be blocking adds on first startup but they block adds when I refresh the page or open a new tab.

Anybody else having the same issues? I have the latest version of both of these addons and even try to run just one at a time and still no difference.
 
I have this issue with Opera 15 which uses the Chrome engine. Apparently webkit loads the pages on startup prior to initializing any extensions. There's nothing to be done atm.
