I have a '04 Acura TL and my friend has a '05 Mustang (just the regular one...not the GT or cobra). I really don't know too much about cars so out of curiosity, which would win in a short race?

LOL, the V6 mustang? This is one bad joke of a thread.

V6 Mustang will run 0-60 in about 7 seconds. The TL has a couple tenths of a second advantage.

V6 mustangs are not terrifically fast, but they are faster than most 4 cylinder cars and most trucks

The new '05 V6's are no joke, they almost have as much as an old 5.0 fox body.

Is your car or your friends auto or stick?
Not to familar with the Acura TL, I know its a FWD V6 - these are the performance specs I could find:
Performance:
0-60 1/4 mile speed
Acura 3.2 TL - V6 3.2L (270 hp) 5A (Sportshift) + ABS 6.66 15.16 97.60
Acura 3.2 TL Dynamic - V6 3.2L. (270 hp) - 6M + ABS 6.74 14.98 97.70

Most of the '05 V6 guys with automatics at the 'stang board I frequent are getting low 15's and trapping around 92.
I havent seen any figures for the 5-speed manual, but I figure they would be slightly better than the auto numbers.
I think it will come down to the driver's skill...So I'm abstaining from voting - Only one way to find out :D

i suppose since most americans only judge a race by 2 things... which are 0-60 and quarter mile, yes the TL will spank the mustang.

the TL can do 6-6.5 seconds from what i've seen in most mags 0-60. a v6 mustang with 200 hp is not going to win.

now in a real race with curves and such, the mustang might handle a bit better because it is rear wheel drive and a coupe and such. then again its suspension is much less sophisticated than the TL. i'd go with the TL with equivalent drivers for almost everything. if its a GT mustang then ok the mustang wins.

Yes, the mustang is automatic (the inside doesn't look right without a stick shift.) as in the TL

I think you got that backwards...the 'stang with it's SRA should launch better and do good in a straight line race, while the TL and it's IRS should do better in the twisties on a curved road course...but then again the TL is FWD..so I really dunno how it would do in a road course.

Those guys got 14.2@98. Either way, trap speeds approaching 100 means low 14s are possible, but FWD sucks for traction.

Nice run, must have been the 6M tranny with a good driver.

I took down a V6 Mustang in my Mazda3. Okay, so it was the '99 model and an automatic, but don't ruin it for me. That's my crowning glory in that car.

Ha-ha - as the street racers would say - nice kill LonelyPhoenix! :D

In a short stoplight to stoplight race, like I said earlier - I put my money on the better driver since the performance specs are fairly close. Anything longer than that, I give it to the TL, you'll see the DOHC 3.2 and better power to weight ratio really shine. I don't condone street racing, but if you do it Bucks, let us know the results :D

It wouldn't be enough difference to matter, probably not even a car length in your "short race" unless you took it to a track and such.

Hmm, not enough V6's or TL's to compare. One guy got a 13.8 with 100 shot of NOS on his 02 TL, and only 1 V6 'stang automatic listed at 15.3. The rest were GT's.

TL vs Stang

My 2003 Ford Econoline completely trashed a 97 Mustang V6...that was quite amusing.
