Actually a memory question

Could someone please explain to me what PC2100 means. Also, what does any of those numbers mean - PC133, PC150 and so on? In a processor, mhz measures number of operations the processor can perform. But what does 133 mhz in memory mean?
Another question, is there any common "measuring stick" so than one can compare for example PC2100 and PC133. Which one is faster? Is PC150 faster than PC133? My memory runs at 145 now, is it faster than PC2100?

funny that you have your mem running at 145 and you dont even know what it means (im not trying to offend, just seems funny is all)

pc66, pc100, pc133 and pc150 are all the same stuff they are sdr ram, the only dif is how fast they are capable of running, for example you can try to run pc100 memory at 133mhz, and there is a good chance it will be able to run that fast stable, in which case its effectivly pc133 even though it was only made to be run on a 100mhz bus


pc2100 is totally dif, its like pc1600 they are both types of ddr ram

and to answer your question about if sdr at 145mhz is faster/slower then ddr 2100 the answer is the ddr is probably alot faster, since its double pumped 133mhz or 133x2

PC133 means 133 million cycles are sent through the chip per second. PC2100 means that 2100 MBs of data can be sent through the chip/second. In PC2100, 133 million cycles are also sent through the chip per second but the data is read twice per cycle, which means its essentially PC266 and which means added preformence.

ddr 2100 is actually 133mhz double pumped (x2)

just like pc1600 is 100mhz x2

I don't think its really double pumped in the same way Intel/Rambus stuff is Quad-pumped, in DDR the data is read twice per cycle on the top and bottom

is the pc 1600 ddr 168 pin??? can you run it in place of your pc 133?? do you have to run ddr ram with a ddr cpu???...........any answers..thanks....(my fsb limiting factor is my pc133 ,,i think...where can i go?? pc 150 or 160 any faster ram????

Not DRR ram uses a different pin config and ZAP less voltage(2.5)

No, you can't use it with an older standard sdr board (i.e. A7V) b/c DDR DIMMs and regular ole' SDRAM are two incompatible formats. If you wanna upgrade, you'll need a new mobo that supports DDR DIMMs.
