Wrong. People in this country do these kinds of crimes because they know that they can get away with it -that nobody's got the balls to stand up against them.
lol you're an idiot. seriously. end yourself.

I asked you a series of questions; I didn't call you stupid. Now, if you ARE just trying to find anything and everything you can use to keep arguing, then yes I will call you stupid.
If you don't know how to defend yourself, all I can do is strongly suggest you learn.
🙂 <-- see? Not angry, just defensive I guess. I'm sick of the attitude around way too many people I meet that basically says "woah is me, I'm helpless" when they can make an effort to learn and better themselves. Then, when they meet someone who DOES know WTF they're doing, they call them on how outlandish they must be not to be as helpless as they are because they can't possibly fathom someone being able to take control of the situation --or even TRY for that matter.

You're the dumbass. No one here agrees with you. You're fighting a one man battle because you're wrong fool. You still haven't answered as to why law enforcement officials preach a whole different way of acting. Is it because you can't????
I sure have heard of people being killed even though they didn't put up a fight. But why increase the chances?Originally posted by: Nik
Ever heard of someone being mugged and killed when they DIDN'T put up a fight? It's nobody's fault for a shooting death but the guy holding the gun. If I try defending myself or others, it's not my fault if the attacker shoots and kills someone else. This may be hard for you to understand, but if I try taking down an attacker and he shoots and kills someone else in the process, do I get taken to court and charged with murder? No. I potentially saved the lives of everyone who *didn't* get killed who were involved.
I'm so very willing to take the chance to save those lives, even if it results in everyone being killed.
I will NOT take the chance that the wallet or purse is the only thing that will be taken. Yeah, people get robbed every day that get away without a scratch, but people also get robbed and killed even though they were completely cooperative and I'll be goddamned if I'm going to take that chance. It's better to act and fail then to never have acted at all, IMO.

The key here is safety for others first.
That's why law enforcement official does not act recklessly during car chase and the chase tends to last a long time. That's why swat team has a negotiator during hostage situation and direct confrontation is always the last resort.

maybe one day you'll be presented with this exact situation, according to your philosophy, you'll stand up against them...unless you're strapped yourself, you too will be on the side of the road dying and thinking to yourself, "god, i'm an idiot"

Nice. That response may just be a thread-ender 😀
Anyhow gentlemen, it's been fun but I'm off to work out...you know, just in case I'm hanging with Nik one day and he decides to attack some muggers 😉

Makes me want to carry around a gun because of situations like these. When I walk in the streets, I'm ALWAYS suspicious. I have a "TRUST NO ONE" attitude.
OK. So you have a gun.
You're confronted by 4 or 5 men with guns who want your gun and your wallet.
What are you going to do?

As to the rest of the thread, I'm kind of in the middle of the sides here...if I have ANY chance of winning, I fight. Period. But I have a hell of a lot of training in order to make that decision quickly and accurately. Also if there is ANY chance it goes beyond simple robbery, I fight to the death no matter what. I will not allow a rape in my presence, nor allow someone else to be taken, or injured. I have no qualms about dying to stop such a thing. None.

Let's not hijack the thread...for every post you guys link about someone getting hurt trying to stop a crime, I'll link 2 about people successfully defending themselves from crime.

Hijack the thread? The thread had already been hijacked.
And the story you linked too would have been different if the elderly couple intervened with "hey stop! what are you going to do? Shoot me?"

Sad story indeed. Her brave act didn't pay off.🙁
It might not even have been bravery to her, some people (like me) just aren't very good at assessing dangerousness in other people.

Rape or someone about to be killed is a different story.
I'm not gonna risk my life over my wallet though.
