The key here is safety for others first.
That's why law enforcement official does not act recklessly during car chase and the chase tends to last a long time. That's why swat team has a negotiator during hostage situation and direct confrontation is always the last resort.
I want to agree with NIK to some degree. In this particular situation I can't. As infuriating as it is to get robbed the risk/reward ratio doesn't work out in the individual instance. If everyone fought back it may work out on a societal level, but that's hypothetical bar talk. Though maybe the example of the wild west and gunfights then (the frequency of which was very low in reality) is something to be learned from. Many muggings in old Dodge City were there?

See two people being mugged, one gets shot, ok to step in then or still not ok since your intervention may get the other person shot? You can play this game to ridiculous extremes. NIK may be wrong, but so are those who justify inaction without end.
Sad truth is most people won't do anything, no matter what the degree of violence they're witnessing. Many, most?, people won't even call the police for fear of getting involved or being embarressed for calling in something they're not sure about. We're all read those stories where someone's been beaten, raped or killed with a crowd standing around. Suburban Rambos aren't the answer, but if their talk shames sheepeople into some support of their fellow human being they've done a service to society.

Now, mind you, I carry a gun, and am damn well trained with it (and other things)...but she erred. Rule is; first gun out calls the shots. Unless you can get into play first, and have GREAT position against that many, you hand the money over without comment. Then if you're really pi$$ed off, shoot em in the back of the heads as they leave. 😎

As to the rest of the thread, I'm kind of in the middle of the sides here...if I have ANY chance of winning, I fight. Period. But I have a hell of a lot of training in order to make that decision quickly and accurately. Also if there is ANY chance it goes beyond simple robbery, I fight to the death no matter what. I will not allow a rape in my presence, nor allow someone else to be taken, or injured. I have no qualms about dying to stop such a thing. None.

Ga. Store Turns Into Site of Shootout

ATLANTA (AP) - When two men walked into a popular country store
outside Atlanta, announced a holdup and fired a shot, owners Bobby
and Gloria Doster never hesitated. The pair pulled out their own
pistols and opened fire.
The armed suspect and his partner were killed. The Dosters won't be
charged, according to local officials, because they were acting in
self-defense.
"I just started shooting," said Gloria Doster, 56. "I was trying to
blow his brains out is what I was trying to do."
Shoats Grocery & Package near Crawford, 70 miles east of Atlanta, is
a well-known spot where locals stop for breakfast biscuits or lunch.
Gloria Doster said the two men who came there Monday had something
else in mind.
She was rearranging boxes of soda by the store's front door when a
man wearing a wig walked inside, the fake hair draped in front of his
face.
"I asked him, 'Can you see to walk?'" Doster said. Then she noticed a
second man behind him wearing a mask. He announced a holdup.
One man grabbed Gloria Doster and pushed her toward the register. She
said the other kept his gun on her 62-year-old husband, who also goes
by the name Shoats.
She tried to open the register, but one of the men told her she
wasn't moving fast enough and tried to shoot her husband. He missed -
and his gun jammed.
At that point, Bobby Doster pulled out a .380-caliber handgun and
shot one of the suspects. Gloria Doster then went for a 9 mm pistol
she keeps near the register.
"All hell broke loose," she said. "I was trying to shoot and dial 911
at the same time."
Both suspects took cover behind the store's meat counter as the
Dosters opened fire. Gloria Doster said she doesn't know how many
bullets were fired, or how many times the suspects were hit.
Police arrived about five minutes after receiving Gloria Doster's
call; the suspects died a short time later at a hospital.
The bloodshed, nevertheless, startled Gloria Doster, who has been
around guns all her life, and has used them for target shooting. "But
I never figured I'd have to use them on anybody," she said.
She said the worst thing that's happened in the seven years the
couple has owned the store was an after-hours break-in by teenagers
three years ago. The burglars were promptly arrested.

agreed. no one is saying they wouldnt try to stop bodily harm. i think we would all do that. the fault in niks logic was pointed out pages ago, but that interferes with him swingin' his ebadass epenis around, since hes a ninja, trained in 87 different fighting styles, and can stop bullets with his teeth.
