Well, What do you think?

Personally, I fully agree with what he did and respect him for it. He battled cancer for three years, and finally when it just probably absolutely sucked to be alive, he took his own life.

Anyone think that what he did was foolish? Or that because of the Christian ethic on suicide, that at this very moment he is broiling in Hell? (Oh, I don't believe in Hell...)

Just curious to see if there are people who believe ending suffering in such a way is evil.

It's too bad. Not enough doctors know how to treat pain. My mom is a palliative care RN who has taken special courses on pain management. The biggest myth about cancer is that you will die a very painful death. The second biggest myth is that you don't have to die a painful death but you will be so drugged up that you won't know what is going on and hence you might as well be dead. It's a sad state of affairs that doctors can go through almost a decade of training and not once are they versed in proper pain management. That's what is the case for many many doctors.

Given a proper pain management regimen, Mr. Farnsworth wouldn't have had to be in so much pain (at least physically). Perhaps he wanted to tough it out, as he was a very tough person before cancer. It's too bad...cancer is just a horrible disease.

I have a friend whose Mother passed away from cancer just about a month ago. For two days before she died, her Mother used to beg her to kill her because the pain was so intense. :(
