He's a liaison to Asians and Pacific Islanders and to the arts. I don't see what the problem is.

Do we need to spend money on a liaison to Asians and Pacific Islanders.

Geesh, the govt bitches and moans about executive pay and bonuses, yet won't even look at the wasteful wage spending in it's own house.

1. Kal Penn will draw nowhere near the kind of salary being complained about with execs. Really reaching with this comparison.
2. It's a position giving millions of Americans - not just asians/islanders, but young people in general - a voice in government. Somehow I doubt you'd be whining if it was a liason to gun advocates or evangelicals.

That's what those people in that place referred to as Congress are for. They give a group a voice in government.

Wasteful spending is wasteful spending.

Seems stupid, but then you remember that we had a successful 8 years when the country was run by an actor in the 80's.

The actor you speak of took a break in between acting and being the POTUS to be governor of Cali.

I just want to be clear about how dumb you are. Kal Penn jumping from acting to being employed in the public liaison office. This is the topic we are discussing. Kal Penn isn't becoming a president or even a governor or the head public liaison. He is just taking a small part in that office by dealing with Asian american and pacific islander communities and the arts community.

The comparisons to Reagan are perfectly reasonable, Reagen made far larger and bolder jumps in political activism compared to Kal Penn becoming a minor PUBLIC LIAISON good lord the idiocy in this thread is mind blowing.

funny it wasn't someone wanting to be Cheech or Chong though.

I wouldn't call him an actor... but he is still my favorite Penn tho.

kinda fits the liberal motif. :)

Given that 18-35 year olds are a significant portion of the voting pool yet have almost no representation in congress, I would say so. An outreach position is the next best thing.

Again how is Kumar supposed to be our voice in government when he's NOT in congress.

Read the next thing I posted: "Given that 18-35 year olds are a significant portion of the voting pool yet have almost no representation in congress, I would say so. An outreach position is the next best thing."

Also, all of you complaining about government waste, you do realize that appointments like this are not even remotely unusual for US Presidents, democrat or republican, right? I wonder how many of you were complaining about the much more blatant cronyism in the previous admin.
