Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out. Any bets on whether or not they try to charge these guys?

Basically, looks like a former drug cop turned activist set up the police in Odessa.

I'm really curious as to how they obtained the warrant.

A few articles related to the incident:

First link may be NSFW - it's a site run by the former cop selling dvd's about how to avoid
police, plenty of drug/arrest/police stuff on there

http://kopbusters.com/v2/node/176

Others:
http://www.examiner.com/x-536-...t-cops-in-Odessa-Texas
(doesn't have the vids of the cops raiding the house, only news report)

UPDATE:
I almost forgot about this with the holiday and all that stuff...

Here's two of the more recent articles:
http://www.oaoa.com/news/raid_...l/rangers_bullock.html
http://www.oaoa.com/opinion/co....html/drug_odessa.html

Looks like the cops got an anonymous letter saying there was drug activity at that house.
Hrm, wonder who might have sent that lol - odd thing tho, it was funneled through a clergyman according to the article... weird..

What a shit-tard. He didn't prove anything. They got drug info and reacted. It has nothing to do with the woman in jail for 7 years.

Unless you buy the guy's story.. I dunno.

Edit - I only called him names because I thought this was posted in Off Topic. It's late and I lost track of what forum i was in, but I'll leave the post in tact.

Wow, why's he a shit-tard?

They had an empty house with two grow lights and a two fucking pine trees in it. Yet somehow
the police managed to get a search warrant and raid the house?

They got drug info? From where? They're not sharing.....

Now if it turns out that the activists paid a CI to tip the police or did something equally stupid then yeah, he's a "shit-tard".

Otherwise, I really wanna know why they raided that house. This guy's record from his police days is pretty damn impressive - he's betting they used FLIR. I'd say he's in a pretty good position to guess.....

I love this whole thing. Since there never was any "evidence", it will be interesting to see what the cops fabricated to obtain a warrant.

The entire justice system gives extra weight to what the cops do and say under the assumption that they are honest, honorable, and truthful. That's not really a bad thing if it is accurate, but truly awful if it is not.

If the cops used false testimony or illegal techniques to obtain the warrant, it is important to have this information see the light of day.

Power Consumption or neighbours reporting suspiscious activity are the most likely reasons.

For all we know the cops did use FLIR and got a warrant based off of that. Obviously they did something to tip off this house or it wouldn't have just been randomly picked.

Btw, I only called him names because I thought this was posted in Off Topic. It's late and I lost track of what forum i was in.

IANAL, but they're saying FLIR is illegal (I imagine this is only for the inital stuff) and reference this case:

In less than 24 hours after first going to the house? Not bloody likely. I can't get cops here in 24 hours when I report a frigging crime in progress, never mind suspicious activity. There are only 2 possibilities:

the activists tipped the cops to get the reaction they wanted
the cops are circumventing the law in order to find people to bust

That's it, there's no other reasonable options here.

I suppose you're right. Should be investigated by a neutral party to see what turns up. Not sure how all this affects the woman's situation either way.

Aye, that's what it looks like after scanning the Kyllo vs US case.

I think the point is just to show that the police do things illegal/immoral. If it can be shown publicly that they're corrupt, they're hoping they can garner public support to get the woman's case examined and hopefully changed.

The guy that starts the first video, isn't the the ex-DEA agent that sells videos on how to hide marijuana in your car so that it is not easily found in a car search.

This is funny. You read about cops busting little old ladies growing Irises and people growing tomatoes...where did the get the information for the warrant on those?

Cops much rather bust the small time pot grower. It's easy, they don't have guns, no risk to them. Easier than going after tweakers or folks slinging crack. And they sure don't want to try and bust the mexican mafia - they'll come kill your family!

NORML or some organization should start doing this all across the country. Counter-tactics in the "war on drugs". Cops heads would be spinning...

What a stupid waste of time and resources. Nothing useful can come of this, all the cops have to say is that they got an anonymous tip and they acted accordingly. Done.

I wonder if the "anonymous tip" said that the was heavily armed he would have been shot dead? Anonymous tips are bullshit fallback excuses.

Yeah, sometimes they are, but they are also a fundamental part of how the police does their job, they are very much needed. In scenarios like this though, it gives them an easy "out" that can't be verified.

Next time you cut me off in traffic, I'll find out where you live and report your pot growing operations. Hope you don't have a family dog...

Just legalize marijuana already. This is so stupid.

Oh noes! Not pot! Nevermind that mainstream America has a medicine cabinet full of muscle relaxers, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs and a plethora of other drugs. We have to stop teh pots!!!

If I consider smoking pot doing nothing then its safe to assume I don't care if she was selling it either :)

I think a point is being missed here, our justice system is really messed up if it does not really dump on informants he give false evidence to judges. In that sense, the judge granting the warrant is not to blame, but
the blame lies on the person giving false evidence.
