Telltale Games had promised a reboot of the King's Quest games from Sierra On-Line in 2011, but between developing The Walking Dead and the just announced Fables game The Wolf Among Us, the title never materialized. Now, it appears that Activision has plans for the series since the rights have since reverted back to the publisher.

Paul Trowe, head of Replay Games, told Digital Trends that he had hoped to license King's Quest from Telltale so that he and Sierra co-founder Roberta Williams could work together again on a project. But Telltale told him that it couldn't do the games, and that it was in the hands of Activision.

"I talked to the guys at Activision and they were like, 'No, we're pulling it because we're going to do it ourselves,'" Trowe said.

We've reached out to Activision to see what they may have planned. We will update if they offer any more details.

Ugghhh...

Sweet merciful monkey crap on a stick. I don't even like King's Quest, but I'd never wish Blizzactardvision upon it.

I personally never liked the King's Quest games, but this is another travesty waiting to happen.

I have very fond memories of King's Quest V

I also played a bit of King's Quest VI "old lamps for new! old lamps for new!"

Loved KQ V. Never finished VI and never tried 7 or 8.

Hopefully Roberta Williams helps with it.

Loved KQ2 & KQ4
Didn't really get into 1 or 3. By 5 the direction had changed.

I wonder what kind of cover system and how long a delay before health generation they will use in the new King's Quest.

Kings Quest was an adventure game by Sierra. I only played Kings Quest 1, and it was good. I actually bought the whole set from GoG recently, but never got around to playing them. The game was similar to other Sierra adventure games, with lots of ways to die and based mostly on humor and not drama.

I don't think Roberta Williams was ever going to be a part of this. Unless there was some close door E-mails that no one knew about. I been all through Ken and Roberta Williams website and blog looking for any info. All they do now is boat around the world in the summer time. Ken pretty much said he never get back into gaming because he has no clue what would even work in today's gaming. I was sad when I read that because KQ was a big big part of my gaming as kid. I know way to much on them I might be a stocker :p

In Obi-Wan's words: I have a bad feeling about this.

I hope they won't take KQ VIII Mask of Eternity as a model.

wow I agree this definitely sounds like a disaster in the making.
they should have let telltale or another group have a shot at it.. they'll probably try to transform it into another kind of game altogether!

poweryoga, your comment was hilarious!

I never even played King's Quest, but just by reading the headline I already knew what to expect.

No, no, don't worry. They will surely have "1983 mode" where health takes longer to regen, and with a FOV slider in the menu, how could anyone complain. :whiste:

It will be interesting how Activision manages to make this a first person shooter.

Activision only cares about making money. They can crap out a new Kings Quest every year and sell DLC to extend the story so it makes sense.
