There are so many dynamics to this problem, i am hoping someone can help!!

Right now I have XP installed on a RAID 0 array and also on a single HD. My question is I have partition magic and I cant seem to make the RAID array an active partition. It says it does it, reboots, and it remains the same. The only way to get to this partition is to leave the XP install CD in the tray during bootup. When it says press any key to boot from cd, i leave it alone, then it goes to the boot menu and I can select between the single drive and the RAID drive. This works, however when the CD is not in the tray, I get a "disk boot failure, insert system disk" message.

This is all happening with the boot order in the BIOS as, RAID, then HD1. If I choose to do HD1, then RAID, it goes to the bootmenu but when I select an OS it says something about a missing hal.dll file and reboots. I have tried installing this file from within windows recovery, but no luck.

Is there a way to start completley clean? I have tried formating my C: (the single drive), but then I lose my bootloader and am stuck. Any ideas!?! My goal is to have just the RAID array being the only OS drive.

quick update, I manged to get the D: (the RAID drive), set as active, and when I boot to it, instead of getting the disk boot failure, it now says its missing NTLDR or something.

Mind telling us your motherboard?

Nforce4 supports raid morphing.
Nforce 3 and below does not.

Did you install the raid drivers on the OS setup?

thanks for the reply, i managed to get it working....at least enought to make me happy. It boots fine, for a quick second it says
Invalid BOOT.INI, booting from c:\windows

and then it boots just fine, its weird but I can live with it i guess
