Active display port adapter, when is it needed?

Real quick, if I have a monitor with a display port on it (Dell U2211h) do I still need an active display port adapter when hooking this monitor up as a third to an AMD 58xx or 69xx series card? Or will any display port cable work just fine?

just a dp cable needed, nothing else.

good to go if monitor has native displayport input, like your monitor.
