Hi all,

Due to new server upgrade, i need to conduct a migration from windows 2000 advanced server to windows 2003 enterprise edition. My first step is to migration user accounts in active directory 2k to Active directory win2003.

The complication of this migration is that, the old server and new server have the same netbios name (basically same domain name)

Are there any migration tools that allow me to migration objects out of AD and allow me to import to the new AD

Please advice. Thx

In this situation, what I would do to make this move more painless, is to take a crap machine (Anything that can run windows), install your current Advanced server on it, add it to the domain as a DC. Wait for all the accounts to sync up and migrate all the FSMO roles. Then, upgrade this box to 2003 Enterprise (Shut down your old machines at this point (and keep them safe!). Now you should have just one machine on the network that is running 2003 Ent (and you can use a different name). Now, you should be able to get your new server up with the old name, sync up accounts and migrate FSMO roles again, then shut down the temporary 2003 Ent server. You can restore any files via backups, your user accounts should be intact, and you have complete path back to your original network should something go terribly wrong.

good suggestion, but i dont have a spare machine for transition purposes.

Are there any tools/scripts that allow me to automate account creation in AD?

I do not wish to create all the accounts manually.
