Active Directory question for ya

Bud Guy

Sorry, but I don't have any other info, except for this question:

"Can you promote a NT4.0 BDC to PDC when AD is installed?"

Thanks in advance
Shane

If AD is already installed , why do you need a PDC OR a BDC ?
You can define one server with AD to be the PDC emulator but beyond that there is no need for either a PDC or a BDC on a Win2K network

"Does not compute"

???
BDCs & PDCs exist only in NT4. Once an NT4 server has been upgraded to W2K, it can only be a DC or a member.

You can't install AD on an NT4 server.

No you cannot. With Active Directory, one of the DC's (the very fist Windows 2000 Domain Controller) is the PDC when you are in Mixed Mode. If you change Active Directory to Native Mode, you will not be able to use BDC's.

Exactly what JHereg said.
