Activating XP over the phone

For some reason I can't activate over the internet even though I am connected so I call the 888 number provided in the Activating Windows screen. I read the numbers out and they say they can't find the product and that I need to return it. I did the same thing last night on the same system and was able to get a live person. For some reason I can't this time and it is giving me no alternatives. Is there another number to use so I can get a live person since the automated line doesn't seem to see me as having a valid license?
 
I did a repair last night trying to solve the problem, but it didn't help so I had to format.

Did you try pressing random numbers multiple times at the key entry screen? I got a live person after doing that.

Yep, worked for me too. It was a pain trying to come up with (8) 6 digit codes that would be accepted, but I got a live operator afterwards. Thanks!
 
Type the numbers in instead of saying them. It will never understand every single digit, and I don't know why they expect it to. I tried keying them in and it worked great.
