Activating Windows XP

I rebuilt my old machine that had XP with a few new parts and had to call MS to activate it. I have since built a new machine and installed Vista to it.
Now I am going to build another machine and install that old copy of XP to it. It will be all new components. Does MS allow you to do this? I suppose I'll have to call again?

If its a retail version of XP then using it on your new rig is fine as long as its not being used on another PC.

If its an OEM version of XP, then its non transferable and can only be used on the original PC.

what if you have a non OEM non retail CD like i do?

anyway if it prompts you to call you have to call, sometimes it does sometimes it does not, it has to do with the frequency at which you install and whatnot, ive reformatted and reinstalled on the same comp without issues before as well as killed 1 install for a new build
80% of the time the activation goes straight through

i had to call and reactivate when i changed my sound card a week ago

been trouble shooting an install on another PC and ive had to call and activate that same one 4 times in 3 days

This is actually Microsoft's current ruling regarding OEM license transfers.
