Activating Win XP Pro

I thought you had to activate XP Home but the Professional version was exempt... but here it is, telling me I have 29 days left for activation.

Is it because I bought this at student pricing? Or am I just behind on the times and MS has required us to activate XP Pro regardless?

Both Pro and Home have to be activated.

Only corporate or government customers who purchase volume license agreements for XP are exempt from the activation process. All other XP licenses are subject to activation, as far as I know.
