Activating Vista...

So, I just installed Vista Business (free from some MS offer).

The first thing it asks for after the second startup, is to ACTIVATE it via online. I didn't install anything yet (no lan drivers, nothing), and I couldn't install anything because I had to activate vista. This is stupid lol.

I had to call in to Microsoft and give the robot some #'s and in response, I got some #'s back.

Is this how you guys activated Vista? 😛

I did mine online ,was just a click.

Well yeah, you had an internet connection with lan drivers/network card installed. I didn't. 😛

You asked how I activated it 😉, anyway if I had no net I would of phoned them.

You can also use the option of not activating it (trial non-activation for up to 30 days) and then activate it once you had everything set up.

Why do you have to Activate to add drivers? I've installed Vista several times with no Key at all and have been able to run Windows Updates and to get updated drivers online from Microsoft. You can, of course, also grab the needed drivers from another (online) PC by going to the hardware maker's web site.

Most folks won't Activate Windows until they've got it running properly and all the hardware and drivers are installed. If you add too many things after you Activate, you'll have to re-activate.
