You should be able to access your files if you use another OS on another drive or partition.

Microsoft is that harsh

use a corporate CD key or bypass it with cracks or hacks

you use a CD key changer, but at this point, you might as well just register your OS for the hell of it

Or just activate your legal copy like the rest of us.

it won't let you log into the OS after the 30 days.

MrChad is right, don't hack/steal/misuse the OS, just get a legal copy and use it legally. It's best for both sides.

No.

Registration and activation are quite different. One is required, one is not.

wow - that's a really good post

You might be able to hook your hard drive up to another computer and access it that way but other than that, you won't be able to access anything.

This is a complete lie. You will not be able to login, and you will be required to activate before you do so.

I hope you enjoyed your time here.

Harsh...

Anyway, you'll always be able to get your data off, even the time limit expires before you activate it. Just use Knoppix. 🙂

What's harsh? Sorry but we do not condone piracy here at Anandtech and I think I speak for almost the entire forum.

After 30 days you won't be able to access the desktop. As best I remember ...you will no longer have the ability to activate after the 30 days of REMINDERS!

Rob a convenience store and buy a copy so as not to violate EULA!

Where I used to work we borrowed several computers from the government that were previously booted but the installations were never finished. Since the clock started at that point 30 days was already up by the time I received them. It was no problem to call Microsoft and use the automated system to go through the activation process. Each computer took less than 15 minutes to do so.

you can activate them after the 30 days. You boot up, and it tells you to either activate or shut down. The internet activation worked fine in the lab, and that included specifing a proxy server partway through.
