I just read the review at Gamespot and I am pleasantly surprised!

Here's the beginning and the end of the review:

"It's hard to believe that in 2005, someone somewhere had the audacity to make a real-time strategy game stuffed with live action cutscenes. It's even harder to believe that it works. Yet with Act of War: Direct Action, Atari and developer Eugen Systems have managed to turn convention on its head. Here's a real-time strategy game with the soul of a sleek techno-thriller, stitched together with live action footage that, despite the acting and budgetary limitations, will remind you of the riveting television drama 24 at times. And if that weren't enough, it's also a visually splendid, exciting, and well-paced game, to boot ...

Put it all together and Act of War is an excellent real-time strategy game, packed with great gameplay and beautiful visuals. This is one that's good enough to unseat Command & Conquer's grip on the military-themed real-time strategy genre. Add the game's impressive production values and techno-thriller plot, and you have nothing less than an early candidate for strategy game of the year."

Dudes this games is one fun RTS, like cg generals except graphics are better and more nooks and crannies(sp?). Also like the fact that you can take prisoners and trade them. I need a trainer for the full game version, can anyone help me find one, thanks.

When I first heard about it, it sounded like something slapped together to capitalize on the War on Terror. I've been hearing more and more good stuff about it though. I think I have a demo from Maximum PC around here somewhere, I will have to check it out.

It's command and conquer and war craft mixed together with a powerful graphics engine.

I like this game. Money is not as plentiful as the c&c games, so forming 2-3 tactical groups is a must. You can't just rush the enemy with 30 tanks. Because A, missile infantry would tare them apart, and B, no way you'll be able to afford it in most of the missions.

I was a little disappointed though the single player mode does not let me choose factions. It's just task for talon for the majority of the game. Online gameplay, which I have not tried yet, seems to be the only replay value of the game.

For 40-50 dollars though....I think they could of added another faction to the game. 3 factions to choose from in skirmish and online modes, yet only one in single player mode. And sadly there is only 10 skirmish maps to choose from. I'm sure there will be more later by either patch or by mod users. This game seems awfully incomplete if you ask me. If they came out with a expansion pack, it should be no more than 10 dollars.

That sucks. The perfect combination would be a C&C/WC mix. The lack of flexibility is not encouraging :(

Edit: I take my comments back;) The other factions are playable in the skirmish mode...for some reason I thought they were not playable at all.

Pretty sweet game. I need a faster CPU and/or 1GB of RAM though, since it REALLY chugs on my system. I just started the campaign and it's pretty interesting with all the cinematics. I guess that the skirmish mode is simply RTS-like, but definitely a creative, good game overall.

Dissappointing. I had so much hope for this game, real tanks and all (I've been wanting to play a game where the equipment was real; I've been left to user Mods for Generals). I'll still try out the demo, see what happens.

but I think it's the poor performance coding of this game...
it chugs on my system as well..
and give me all this artifact and I have to download my video card.

I got Act of War. It's pretty good. No chopyness on my system. It's got a good interface and the gameplay is quite intense especially when you know you're moving toward a building that is swarming with rocket soldiers or enemy infantry. It's tough to manage your forces individually though and if you have 2 or 3 squads of vehicles and troops moving in different directions you really have to accept the fact that you will have some casualties. Some of the vehicles will go around a building and the other part of the group will cut thru a courtyard which could be a problem if their are enemy troops around. Overall I think the game is great but I still like C&C better.
